IBM End of Support for Power 6 and Power 7 Servers
IBM has announced the End of Support (hardware) for IBM Power 6 and Power 7 servers as shown below. After these dates, IBM will no longer offer hardware maintenance support via a contract … you will be forced to buy parts at premium prices and pay hourly rates in excess of $500 per hour for evenings and weekends with a minimum of 2 to 3 hours + travel time and expenses and a credit card approval before parts ship or any work happens. To make it worse, IBM makes no guarantee they will have the part needed nor when they will be able to ship.
Power 7+ server – 8202-E4D – is unaffected by this announcement at this time. Please watch for upcoming announcements about End of Support for this server.
IBM is offering a special hardware support extension (Service Extension) for an additional fee for these servers. It requires an IBM contract addendum be signed and the support is offered at a premium price. Please call for details.
IBM previously announced End of Support for pretty much every other AS400 – iSeries server with End of Support dates between 2018 – 2020 depending on type and model.
